Current Needs

Warm Up America! accepts knitted and crocheted 7" by 9" sections, finished blankets, hats, gloves, scarves, clothing and accessories year round. However, we often have specific needs that require help from our incredible volunteers. Visit this page for updated information on the best way you can help us spread warmth around the country.

Important Notes:

  1. We have created a donation form that we encourage you to include in packages you send to our office. This form helps our volunteers process your donations more quickly and efficiently. Please click this link to view and print the form. If you do not have access to a printer, we encourage you to write this information on a piece of paper and include it with your donations!
  2. If you have donated items in your local community on behalf of WUA!, please fill out this donation form to let us know what you donated and where you donated items to. Anytime you donate items locally, please fill this form out so we can easily keep track of items donated on behalf of WUA! around the country!
  3.  Local donations must be dropped off between 9 am and 2 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please do not leave any donations at the door - they must be accepted and taken in by someone at the office.
  4. No items sent by or on behalf of WUA!, including blankets assembled using 7"x9" sections, should be sold, auctioned, or donated to resale organizations without explicit written consent from WUA!
  5. All blankets joined using a box of 500 sections must go to recipients with a need for warmth or an item made with love. This can be both individuals or other charitable organizations serving larger communities. Blankets cannot be distributed to family or friends as gifts.
  6. Please note that Warm Up America! does not accept donations of fleece blankets or quilts, unfinished items, books, items that are not made of yarn, and/or dirty or heavily soiled items. All items donated to WUA! must be made of yarn, must be in good condition, and must be finished.

Shipping items to those in need

One of our largest costs is shipping fees. WUA! is blessed to have many wonderful volunteers around the country creating sections as well as complete afghans. Making sure these items are completed, and ultimately delivered into the hands of those in need, gets rather expensive.

With every $50 donation or more to WUA! you will receive a curated pattern bundle as a thank you. The pattern bundle includes patterns for blankets, hats, scarves and more. Visit our DONATE page to learn more.

Jaden Cares Blanket Drive: Items Needed Year Round

Jaden Cares is the idea of a 10 year old boy, Jaden Lowery. He was diagnosed with B-cell lymphoma at the age of 6. Jaden fought cancer and won! During his inpatient treatments at Cook's Children Hospital, Jaden would receive gifts from various donors. He would also see many homeless people on his trips to and from the hospital. He told his parents that one day he would like to help the kids in the hospitals and the homeless. After his 9th birthday, Jaden told his parents that he would like to take his birthday money and give it to the homeless and hospitals. This led to the creation of Jaden Cares. Warm Up America! is in need of child and adult-sized blankets year round to provide to those served through Jaden Cares.

Tiny Hats for Tiny Babies™

Warm Up America! is again supporting the East African Preterm Birth Initiative at the University of California San Francisco. Last year WUA! volunteers helped the organization create an amazing 17,000+ hats for newborns. The hats were so well received by new mothers and health workers in Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya, the University team is hoping to match last year’s hat total and expand the program to additional low- and middle-income countries. The deadline for sending hats for the Tiny Hats for Tiny Babies campaign is December 31, 2018. For more details about the initiative, and hat patterns, check out this special page at the website.
